Evening Crane Theatre presents a double-header production of the Italian Tragedies of Lord Byron, Marino Faliero Doge of Venice and The Two Foscari, Sunday February 26th at Theatre 80 St. Marks, directed by Michael Seebold.
Byron’s Italian Tragedies follow the scandals, schemes, and downfalls of two historical Doges, exploring questions of justice, freedom of expression, and the corruption of power. Published in 1821, both plays held a lasting influence over nineteenth-century painters, composers and poets – from Delacroix to Verdi to A.C. Swinburne.
Evening Crane Theatre will resurrect both Tragedies in a unique Masquerade-themed production the Sunday before Mardi Gras 2017.
The plays contain frightening scenes and may not be suitable for young children.
